Chamber Music in Port Townsend, Washington
As the Chamber Music Society of Port Townsend embarks on our second season, we pay tribute to Joseph F. Wheeler, who died on November 2. Joe was a driving force in founding and developing our organization, as he was in so many others in Port Townsend. We will celebrate his bountiful life, by dedicating this season’s concerts to him. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Chamber Music Society, earmarked either for general fund or scholarships.
The Chamber Music Society of Port Townsend was created in the summer of 2008 by a group of friends who are chamber music fans and who were tired of driving to Seattle for concerts. While talking with board members from the Youth Music Fund (also a concert presenter), the decision was made to merge efforts under the Chamber Music Society banner. The YMF history of awarding youth music scholarships continues as a goal of the organization and end-of-year funds, as possible, will be designated to this worthy purpose. It is the intention of the Society to expand these concerts in future years, growing in both number of events and size of audience. The Society will continue to build a sustaining fund through annual memberships and contributions which will insure future and continuing success.
Artistic Director for the concert series is the distinguished pianist William Doppmann who now resides near Port Townsend. Because of his long and pre-eminent musical career, Doppmann is able to assemble outstanding performers from across the United States to join him in these concerts.
The Mission
The Chamber Music Society of Port Townsend will organize and present an annual series of concerts which feature accomplished performers from across the United States. The Society is a 501(C)(3) tax exempt organization, led by a Board of Directors who are devotees of chamber music and who volunteer their time in support of the Society’s programming.
